Proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of
God: Love, Joy and Peace in Jesus.
Dear friends,
How are you? We pray you are well under the grace and love of our
wonderful Heavenly Father. We have had a very happy week with our two sons,
David and Jim, here. Thank you, Lord. But now we
are rather lonesome because our dear daughter Naomi left for camp on Monday and our
sons left that same day for Seattle.
Naomi went to the Special Touch Summer Get Away camp at
Prescott, Arizona, about 200 miles north of us up in the
mountains. Georgianne Goralski and Mike Brown from the CDO church took
her. Thank you, Lord.
We were so glad that David and Jim could come to visit us. They are
wonderful and so helpful, too. What we cannot do, they did for us. Such as
they moved Naomi’s bed to the garage and put the FUTON into Naomi’s room and
more. David fixed both of our toilets. And David and Jim helped the air
conditioning technician chase a bull snake out of our back yard. We all enjoyed
playing games after the supper every night, too. We had wonderful time
together. Sunday morning, we had church at our home. Don talked about what God
has done for him, and it was wonderful to feel the love of our Heavenly Father.
We sang ‘Esta aqi’ (He is here) as we sensed the presence
of the Lord Jesus in our midst.
Sunday afternoon all five of us went up to the Mt. Lemmon. It is about
9000 feet high and it was rather cold. It is so wonderful to see what God has
created. The big stones are on top of each other. Some
of them were so strange to see, because one big one is top of the small one, and
not falling down. At 5000 feet, we could see pine trees. We miss them. We
used to live in Washington State; we could see all the tall pine trees.
While Naomi, David and Jim went up on the ski lift, Michi did not want to
go, as she did not bring a jacket and it was too cold for her, about mid 60s.
At home it was in the mid 90s. Well, it was one good thing that Don and Michi
stayed. While they were up, we met dear friends, Michael and Sushma Hobson and
their little sweet girl. It was a surprise and happy to be with them.
Jim had been so busy since he came. He is still working on his book. He
usually left at 6:30 am to work with his friend, Ricky Scruggs, coaching a high
school baseball team. He slept so little during the night as he was also
working on his book.
Michi received an email from her youngest brother in
response to our recent newsletter. He told her that he too experienced the
provision from our Heavenly Father more than once while he was going to school.
We wrote her mother’s testimony about one of her sons needed money to buy
schoolbooks and God provided it through a stranger. It was on our 05/13/2009
letter.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. (2 Cor
13:14)

Songs: #122 Near to the Heart of God, #164 Sunshine in
My Soul, #33 He is Here
Preface: The Story of Job
(Read the tribulations of Job 1:6-2:10 and how he responded to them.)
Today here in Tucson the temperature is forecast to be in the upper 90s. That
will be a challenge for us as our air condition had stopped working again
yesterday afternoon. Just four days ago it broke down and a repairman came to
fix it, charging us $394.58! And now we need to have him come again. Two days
ago we had to get someone to come and fix our lawn watering system.
Scripture tells us: “Consider it pure joy, my
brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the
testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James
1:2-4)
Sermon: The Reality of God (a personal experience by Don Murphy)
Two days ago I was trying to solve a computer programming problem that
was very perplexing. I have many years of programming experience yet I could
not figure out why this particular problem was occurring. Finally I prayed and
asked God to show me the solution. And He did that immediately!
A few days earlier my wife Michiko was trying to solve a problem in her
song book that she is building with the assistance of a computer program called
Finale. She is very familiar with that program yet she could not figure out why
that problem was occurring. Finally she prayed to our heavenly Father and He
helped her fix the problem immediately. She was so happy.
Is God real to us? Yes, very real. And very powerful. And very
loving. And always has been very real, very powerful and very loving in my
life.
One day when I was in the fifth grade one of my pet pigeons escaped from
their cage and flew to the top of the garage. I tried to call it back but it
ignored me. So I prayed to God, asking Him to give me the ability to fly up
there to catch the pigeon like Superman can do. He did not answer my prayer but
my prayer did show how real God was to me then.
When I was 21 I was living in Japan and one day drove by myself high up
on a mountain and slept in the car overnight. During that night on the mountain
I had a wonderful sense of the love and presence of God that really touched me.
A year or so later I was teaching English to college students in Tokyo
while preparing for a hitch hiking trip around the world. One day I sensed that
the Lord God was telling me that I was to marry Michiko Koyama, a secretary at
that school. So I got acquainted with her and did marry her and we moved to the
United States.
In 1975 I was in the hospital in Seattle with an injured back when a
co-worker came to visit me and helped me open my heart to the Lord and be born
again. Oh, what a wonderful experience that is! Everything became new to me,
the flowers were so beautiful, the sky was so wonderful, I was filled with
delight.
After being born again, I began to read the Bible and one of the first
passages I read was Acts 16:31 which says, “Put your trust in the Lord Jesus,
and you will be saved, you and your whole household.” So I know that the Lord
is saving my family.
I was addicted to smoking cigarettes for about 18 years by the time I was
born again and I was convinced that I could not quite smoking. My son David
used to press me not to smoke in the car. One day in 1975 I joined in a
national day of prayer and fasting. I did not eat all day but continued to
smoke. At the end of the day I could throw my cigarettes away and I never
smoked again. Prayer and fasting, and pressure from your son, is very powerful!
Several months later we attended a Life in the Spirit seminar which leads
to the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the accompanying Gift of being able to
pray in tongues, praying from your spirit. When they laid hands on me to
receive the Holy Spirit nothing happened. But a couple weeks later, during a
lunch time Bible study at work, something did happen! While we were in a time
of silent prayer, I suddenly felt like water was coming up out of my stomach and
I was choking. But the feeling quickly changed to a wonderful sensation and I
began to pray in tongues for the very first time. That was truly an amazing
experience!
In 1977 a Pentecostal minister prayed for my back as it had been badly
hurting for the past two years. When he prayed my back was instantly healed and
has been well ever since. Praise God! Thank you, Lord!
For those two years I could not do much, couldn’t lift anything, but
after I was healed David asked me to help lift the front of a car that he was
working on and I could do so!
A couple years ago I was thanking the Lord for my wonderful wife when the
Lord spoke to me, saying “I gave her to you because I love you.” That says so
much. God loves me, He thinks highly of my dear wife and He wants me to know
that.
God has given me a wonderful family, a wonderful wife and wonderful
children. I am very blessed and do not deserve it.
Now God calls me to love one another and that is a challenge for me. I
was raised in a dysfunctional family life, have a high IQ and am successful as a
computer programmer but to live in love with others is not always what I manage
to do. Pride is powerful but I trust in the Lord God to continue to heal me and
change me so that I can love as He loves.
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, unless you
change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of
heaven.” (Mt 18:3)
The Bible says, “We know and rely on the love
God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in
him.” (1 John 4:16)
So I look forward to becoming mature in love, becoming like Jesus, and
hearing Him say “Welcome home!” when I leave this world.
